Croatia is among the European countries that have practiced viticulture for over 2,500 years. Today, Croatian vineyards cover more than 30,000 hectares and primarily produce white and red wines from numerous indigenous grape varieties, such as Graševina, Plavac Mali, Kujunđuša, Malvasia, Žlahtina, and many others. Prošek is a sweet Dalmatian wine made from grapes that are dried after harvesting. Rakija, a brandy ranging from 40 to 65% ABV, is distilled by farmers, who often have their stills in their konoba (traditional wine cellars). There are several types of rakija: grape-based, plum-based (šljivovica), and apple-based, fig-based, or quince-based. Rakija is often aged in wooden barrels. oak or mulberry.
